Carnival: who rules the roost?
In most Limburg cities and villages during carnival, it is Prince Carnival who takes over leadership from the mayor. His entourage often includes usual suspects such as the Council of Eleven, a court jester, and an adjutant.
But there are revelers and associations that put a different spin on things. In Steyl for example, it is Prince Lucifer who reigns over the devils in this monastery village every year. And in 2022, a theatre maker proclaimed herself Princess Karlijn I of Venlo.
